After a sleepless night flight from Phoenix to JFK we were blessed to spend the day in NYC with Justin Reckart on Wednesday, June 4th. Justin is the son of my lifetime friend, Tim Reckart. I can and will write an entire post about this special friendship soon. Justin is a special consultant and board member of Opus Dei. Opus Dei is an organization within the Catholic Church founded in 1928 in Madrid by father Josemaria Escriva.  its mission is to help members, both lay and clerical, seek holiness in their everyday lives and professions. The organization emphasizes the importance of working and living as a Christian, and finding holiness in everyday tasks and duties. If you would like to know more about the work of Opus Dei you can read a short bit about it here.  Also, no matter who you are, what your age or worldview, you will be blessed and benefit from reading any of the published works of Josemaria Escriva. My favorite is “Friends of Christ” but his most widely read book is “The Way”. Justin was generous enough to show us around the Opus Dei center in Manhattan where he lives and works. The historic building is home to three chapels. The one pictured here has the most beautiful mural depicting the first miracle of our lord during which Jesus shows his love for us in the gifts he so willingly gives us and the holy mother reminds the servants (us) to “ do whatever he says”. Words to live by. The picture of the leaning tower of NYC (comment if any of you know the true name of the building) was taken from the rooftop of Justin’s building.
PS - Be careful what you pray for!  I had been praying for help living outside my comfort zone.  Planes, trains and the streets of NYC definitely pushed me in that direction.
