Day 10 Comillas to Llanes Saturday, June 14

Comillas to Llanes

Saturday, June 14

The good lord has blessed me in many ways and I give thanks to Him every day for His abundant grace in my life. A good measure, packed down. One thing that I am most thankful for, is my amazing wife, Cathy. "The Lord God said, 'It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.'" Gen 2:18.  Cathy has not only been a suitable helper but a true friend and companion, lover of my heart and soul, and fully vested adventure partner. I could not have made this trip without her. Sharing  these intense experiences with her on this little pilgrimage has made me acutely aware of just how special a person she is and just how lucky (and undeserving) I am to have her as my helper on my big pilgrimage.   So, Thank You, Cathy, for being here by my side and loving me as He loves us.

The ride today was probably the best ride so far on this journey. We started off in a cool rain, misting in from the coast, that gave way to overcast skies as we pedaled (yet again) over the coast range. Just as the rain gave way, TWANG - thoing, thoing, thoing - so did a spoke in Cathy’s front tire.  The spoke snapped in half with one end sticking out from the nipple and the other stub dangling like a scarecrows arm from the hub. Luckily enough we had the save-all two dimensional toolkit with us - duct tape!  I taped one end of the broken spoke to a healthy spoke on one side and the other dangling participle to a spoke on the other side and off we went on a (broken) wing and a prayer never knowing how long the broken wing would fly. After rolling  gingerly for 30 miles through the verdant hills and lush riparian habitat of the Asturias countryside, we made it to Llanes with its gothic churches and mid evil castles standing guard. Yay!  There’s is a bike shop in Llanes where we can get the spoke fixed. Boo!  It’s Saturday and they are closed until Monday. The saga continues. Will we find our way to the next town tomorrow?  Will Cathy get her spoke fixed?  Will Lou ever get any sleep? What new mis-adventures will befall us in the days to come?  Stay tuned.

WiFi too weak to load pictures. Come back tomorrow.
