Day 16 Mondonedo to Vilalba Friday, June 20

Lou and Miguel. Another Angel helping us along the way.

Our Lady of the Remedies, Montanedo

Leaving our hostel this morning on our way to our morning cafe con leche.

Only 3 days to go to Santiago. Feeling a little sad it’s almost over but our bodies are saying “yay!”

The climb over the mountain

The mountain (looks like I little hill in this photo but believe me - Cathy.-  it was a mountain!

We were almost to the top when this very kind man, Miguel pulled up beside us in his van to let us know there was a better way to go. We thought we had a great route dialed in after much conversation with several kind people in Mondoñedo so this was somewhat frustrating. Lou and Miguel must have spent at least 45 minutes going over a different route which we couldn’t understand. Finally Miguel offered to take Lou to the road to show him the way while I stayed behind on this field with the bikes and waited. I prayed hard that Lou wasn’t gone forever ( just the way my brain works.)

Thankfully Lou returned with Miguel and we had a new plan. We got down to the road (path) Miguel suggested. It was straight up hill in the blazing sun and we were out of water. I dug out my trusty filter straw and Lou went off to find a spring. Only problem with that is that there are tons of cows around this water. As Lou was coming back from a water source this nice lady showed up with her cows and suggested we keep on our original route. We agreed

So after all that rerouting planning we ended up back to our original plan heading down hill with bottles of dirty water. And we didn’t die on a cow path in the middle of nowhere in the blazing sun. And…we never got lost today! Just lost some time. We are now on our way and Lou spots some farmers working their cattle. Hola! Hola! HOLA!!! Tienes agua por favor? And they did. Love all these people along our Camino.

We made it to Vilalba and we are going to bed.
Buenas Noches!
