My husband my rock…

I just have to take a moment to write down what has been on my heart, mind, and soul these last days. My husband has been absolutely amazing! It’s hard for me to come up with the words to describe my admiration. From the time we left Tucson with all instructions typed out for the Peace family who are graciously caring for the dogs and our house to walking the streets of NYC when that’s really not his thing it’s been one noteworthy event after another where he has just shown what a loving and strong man he is.  This journey has been hard.  Way beyond beautiful but hard. I would never attempt to do this without him. No question. That horrifying moment when Christy fell Lou jumped in and took charge. When I heard the crash and turned around I fell too but jumped up from pure adrenaline and ran to Christy. Lou ran past me to the crowd that had gathered (thank God for the crowd and not being on some remote cow path) directly to Christy’s aide and took charge. Everyone wanted to help as Christy lay there and Lou, very stern but calm and friendly, continuously told everyone not to touch her. Even the police when they arrived and wanted to remove the bike from under her. He knew she shouldn’t be moved until the ambulance arrived. He was down on the ground cradling her head and gently making sure she didn’t move once she wanted to. He was so incredible  with his care for her. I was just standing over her praying. And praying and praying that she would be alright. When I went in the ambulance with her to the hospital somehow Lou and the police rode three bikes to the police station in the next town. Thinking she would be discharged that night he found us a room for three and then somehow found the hospital and took a bus to find us. He was in full leadership mode. I was a major wreck with worry. He just made all the right decisions when my mind quit working.  The next day we gathered our bikes from the police station. Lou investigated how to send her bike back to San Sebastián, found tools, dismantled the bike, boxed it up, found a post office that would send it, contacted the bike shop and sent it on its way. I was speechless. If it were me I think I would have sat down on the curb and cried.  And everyday since he persistently found our way when we were (and will be) lost (because we have taken wrong turns every single day but hey, it’s the Camino, part of the journey!) , fixed broken bikes and even carried his bike (I swear they are 100lbs plus our stuff) to the next closest town to hopefully find a bike pump that worked. The very next day a spoke broke on my bike. (Always travel with duct tape.)His encouragement everyday helps me up and over these massive but stunningly beautiful hills.

And the ride is only half over! I know now I would never ever attempt a trip like this without Lou. I love this guy so much! Happy Father’s Day Luis! ❤️

  1. I didn’t know about the accident! Is Christy okay now? Uncle Lou is very good in crisis mode. Born for it I guess. Happy Father’s Day Lou! May Our Lord continue to protect you both.

  2. from Christy... wow thank you Cathy, for a detailed description of what happened on the road... I really did the traditional "woke up in the hospital and didn't remember anything" approach... and am so grateful for Lou and you and everyone else who cared for me... Wow. all of my "owies" are healing slowly here in Italy as we prepare for the arrival of the youngest Prota child... So very grateful to God and to my amazing co-travelers for caring for me.

  3. He's always been so self-sufficient and caring. I owe him a lot from our early childhood days in terms of example and loyalty. Give him a Father's Day hug for me...

  6. We are tracking you two, not only on the map, but with lots of prayer. I always knew you were an amazing guy Louie, from so many years ago when we hung out in Flag. So happy to have two awesome brothers that I love so much. Louie, you're like the Apostle Shaul, running the race and encouraging anyone who will run it with you! In the final analysis (I think the common saying is "at the the end of the day") we all have to run our own races to the end...So finish well! We know you will! Blessings of Yeshua! Love you, Cis
(We continue to pray for Christy. So glad she is doing better.)
